Or better yet eliminate income tax all together and instate a NATIONAL SALES TAX instead. This would tax those who spend the most on goods and services the most meaning if they could afford to spend it they could afford the tax, now some might ask what about the very poor well that to could be handled. Welfare would be eliminated and any person who worked or was declared disabled would receive a rebate check from the government adequate to bring them to poverty level in their particular area. Now people who would not work and could and were not actively seeking a job would get nothing, (you would be required to put in at least 4 applications per day to be considered looking 5 days a week and could not turn down any job.)
Also unemployment would be eliminated. This system would also eliminate most of the IRS other than collection of the sales tax, would eliminate the welfare system. I Would eliminate the unemployment system. Those who could not find work but did apply would be required to work at least 20 hours per week in some public service job while looking in order to get there check.
Also disabled people when possible would be required to work public service jobs even if it was just cleaning or desk work whatever the disability would allow. But No one but the most seriously disabled would be exempt and of course the elderly as I would also eliminate social security and place it under the same system. This would allow people to save money for retirement if they wanted to but if not they to would receive and amount after retirement equivalent to poverty level where they lived.
In addition this would bring millions on board those that may be living off the grid and I am sure there are many and also illegals as there would be no way to avoid it. The sales tax would also apply to money sent to other countries by individuals who sent more than a specific amount in a years’ time and would be taxed as a service.
This In my opinion would be a fair and practical tax system.

Interesting points. I agree with your points on unemployment and sales tax, but you lost me with disability and social security. Being disabled (and fully vested in the system), I've always wondered when folks make a comment about disabled folks working if they themselves have ever felt excruciating or debilitating pain; it definitely takes away from the whole work experience thing; i.e., ability to work, concentration, meds, etc. Many folks who are disabled and can't work would rather be able to work than be in the situation that they are in and deal with pain on a hourly and daily basis.
